The Northside Independent School District has two elementary schools in the Alamo Ranch Community, Mireles and Hoffman, one Middle School, Briscoe, and two high schools, Taft and Brennan, depending on the address of the property. Lackland Air Force Base(Joint Base San Antonio) is just a short commute from Alamo Ranch up Loop 1604 West to Highway 90 West. San Antonio is also known as Military City USA, and has Randolph Air Force Base and the Historic Fort Sam Houston, Texas(Home of the Combat Medic).. All three bases are presently under air force control, and have been named Joint Base San Antonio. All medical training for all branches of the service are conducted at Fort Sam Houston as a result of the base realignments. Many may remember the Brooke Army Medical Center(BAMC) from the Viet Nam war era, but it has been replaced by the San Antonio Military Medical Center(SAMMC), which is the largest military medical facility in the country, and it's located just off Interstate Highway 35, and Binz-Engleman Road.
If you’re looking for the larger shopping centers, head east on Loop 1604 toward Interstate Highway 10 to the Shops at La Cantera, and The Rim to find stores like Dillard’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neman Marcus, and the Bass Pro Shop.
